Manchester United stunned the footballing world when they signed Di Maria from Real Madrid in 2014.
Many expected the Argentina international to become an Old Trafford great, with new boss Louis van Gaal immediately making a splash in the transfer market.
However, with just three goals to his name, Di Maria toiled and was sold to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2015 for a cut-price £40m.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon say the Argentine’s time at Old Trafford rankles with Messi.
The duo are close friends on and off the pitch.

Di Maria’s translator recently reopened old wounds by saying United only wanted to sign his client for commercial reasons.
“He was unhappy at the club,” Debora Gomes told Esparto Interativo. “Firstly, he couldn't communicate with anyone.
“And second because he realised the club bought him not because the club thought ‘oh, he will bring titles to us because he is a good player’.
“No. Because they simply wanted to sell his shirts.

Messi: Manchester United signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid in 2014

“This I heard inside the club, the people talking. ‘Di Maria sells T-shirts, so let's buy him’. So he was not happy.”
And Don Balon say Messi has told his Barcelona team-mates of his anger at the situation.
He reportedly deems United’s shocking transfer deal as disrespectful to one of his closest friends.
The duo nearly linked up in the summer but Barcelona were unable to get a deal for Di Maria over the line.
