LIVERPOOL center-back Virgil van Dijk’s agents quickly rebuffed an approach from Barcelona, it has been claimed.


The Mirror report that Barcelona made inquiries to the representatives of the Dutch center-back to find out whether or not he might be tempted by a move to the Nou Camp.
But it is claimed any chance of a big-money move away from Liverpool for Van Dijk - who is managed by Neil Fewings of the Wasserman Media Group - was shut down.
That will be welcome news to Reds supporters, with the 28-year-old has been a revelation at Anfield since his £75million move from Southampton 18 months ago. 
The Netherlands international has transformed the club’s defense since his arrival, establishing himself as one of the best center-backs in the world in the process.
Van Dijk was crucial as Liverpool went on to win the Champions League last season, beating Tottenham in Madrid in their sixth European Cup triumph.
His defensive talents saw him named the PFA Player of the Year as the Merseyside outfit also lost just once in the Premier League and managed the best defensive record in the division, conceding 22 goals in 38 games.
Liverpool missed out on the league title to an imperious Manchester City side but Van Dijk will be crucial if the club is to end their 30-year wait for a championship next term - and he isn’t going anywhere says The Mirror.
His performances have even seen Van Dijk tipped to win the Ballon d’Or this year, with Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi seemingly his biggest rival for the award.
Speaking before the Champions League final, Van Dijk declared to the club’s official website: “It’s my club definitely and I'm very proud to be wearing this shirt every day. 
“But it's also one of the reasons when I came here - how everyone lives around Liverpool, lives and dies for the club, want to do everything for us, will be there in tough times. 
“They will also be with us in the good times.
“I think this is a real football club and you don't have too many at this level that is living and breathing for a club like Liverpool.“It was a very important decision [for me] to make, but so far it has gone pretty well.”
And ESPN report that Van Dijk - the most expensive defender in the world - is keen to sign a new deal with the European champions.
Neither the club or the player are said to be in a rush to open negotiations but it is thought terms will be agreed without any issues. 
Van Dijk is among the club’s top-earning stars on around £180,000-a-week, with Mohamed Salah thought to the best-paid of Jurgen Klopp’s squad on around £200,000-a-week.
The pair will not return to Klopp’s contingent until later this month, having been in international action for Holland at the UEFA Nations League and Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations respectively.

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has promised a brutal approach to the transfer market this summer.

Manchester United boss Solskjaer will look to sign as many as five new players when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.
The Red Devils will also look to get rid of some players, however, following a season of mass turbulence over at Old Trafford.
Manchester United could lose Ander Herrera to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, while Paul Pogba is attracting interest from Real Madrid.
Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Alexis Sanchez, and Eric Bailly are also facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford.
And as is Romelu Lukaku, whose agent recently hinted at a summer exit amid links to Serie A trio Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus.
Solskjaer, though, has promised a cutthroat approach as he aims to turn United into title challengers next season.
“I'm under no illusions that this is not going to be plain sailing,” said Solskjaer. “It's going to be hard.
“It's going to be survival of the fittest or survival of the best. That's how ruthless we have to be.
We need players here who are going to be able to take us forward.
That means the culture in the dressing room and what we do every single day here to make us challenge again.”
Solskjaer admitted that United stars are now playing for their futures while lauding Fred and Scott McTominay.
The duo impressed as the Red Devils slipped to a narrow 1-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
And Solskjaer was enthused by the application of the United duo, saying: “I think they've done that since I came in, really.
“We have a certain standard here. We had a great boost [at the start], but now it's more challenging times with the results and performances.
“You want to see players step up now and say: 'I want to be part of this'. You saw Fred and Scott McTominay the other day take up the mantle.
“That's what we expect from all the players. When you win 5-0 or when you're 3-0 up, or when you win five games on the bounce, it's easy.

Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has reportedly agreed to a summer move to Italian champions Juventus with Frenkie de Jong set to arrive at Camp Nou.
As per a report from Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, as carried by Spanish publication MARCA, Barcelona midfield mainstay and Croatian international Ivan Rakitic has agreed to join Serie A champions Juventus in the summer transfer window.
Rakitic has been with Barcelona since the summer of 2014 when he joined from fellow La Liga outfit Sevilla. The 31-year-old has grown into an integral part of the Catalans’ setup and has won three La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy as well, along with numerous other domestic honors.


In the ongoing campaign, Rakitic has continued to essay an important role in the middle of the park for Ernesto Valverde’s men as they push ahead towards another Spanish league crown. So far in the 2018-19 season, the midfielder has played 45 times in all competitions and has been involved in 14 goals (5 goals, 9 assists).

Despite his importance to the side, there is a good chance that Rakitic could see his involvement reduce in the coming season, as Barcelona have snapped up Ajax midfield sensation Frenkie de Jong. The Netherlands international will be joining the Catalans in the summer, after a deal was agreed in January.

With Sergio Busquets nailed down for the deep midfield slot and Arthur Melo emerging as a key creative outlet from the centre, de Jong is most likely to replace Rakitic in the starting lineup. And this has cast doubts over the future of the 31-year-old at Barcelona, with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly making enquiries over his potential availability.

Now, according to latest reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus too are interested in signing up Rakitic in the summer and have already made contact with the 31-year-old midfielder 
The Serie A heavyweights, who are hurtling towards their eighth successive Scudetto, have a number of quality options in the midfield department, with Miralem Pjanic, Emre Can, Blaise Matuidi, Sami Khedira and Rodrigo Bentancur. However, 32-year-old Khedira has spent most of the season on the treatment table and the Bianconeri could be looking to replace the German.
The report further goes on to add that Rakitic has told Juventus that he would consider a switch as he seeks regular playing time and an improved deal, which he is unlikely to get at Barcelona going forward from next season. Barcelona too is likely to be open to a sale as they look to generate funds to bankroll moves for Matthijs de Light and Antoine Griezmann.
Rakitic is contracted with Barcelona till the summer of 2021, having penned a new deal back in 2017. It remains to be seen if he decides to move on from Camp Nou at the end of the season.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of signing five new players when the transfer window reopens while also clearing some deadwood.
The Norwegian was appointed as the club’s new permanent manager last week, following a hugely successful three months as caretaker boss.
Unfortunately, United’s form has taken a turn for the worst in recent weeks, with three defeats in their last four outings putting them in real danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.
However, there are still six games left of the Premier League season to put the situation right and the Red Devils have a European Cup quarterfinal against Barcelona to look forward to additionally.
Solskjaer is already looking beyond the current campaign though, with the transfer market set to reopen in May. According to The Telegraph, the United manager is plotting a major squad overhaul and he expects to bring in five new players ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly are all thought to be on the club’s radar, along with Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and West Ham star Declan Rice – as per The Telegraph.
The Red Devils are also expected to offload five current squad members later in the year – as the Daily Mirror reports – with several stars coming towards the end of their existing contracts.
Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are both set to become free agents this summer, while Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo have already been deemed surplus to requirements.
