LIONEL MESSI’s figures this season with Barcelona are clear evidence that the star is currently better than Cristiano Ronaldo.
While many will continue to debate who is the better player, data from the current campaign suggests that it’s not even close.
A graphic which shows goals and big chances created in Europe’s top five leagues this season suggest that Lionel Messi is an alien.
The Barcelona star has hit 33 league goals this season already in just 29 matches.
Closest to that tally is Kylian Mbappe who has 27 Ligue 1 goals this term.
However, it’s not just goals where Messi is unrivaled across Europe.
He has also created 33 big changes which have resulted in 12 assists.
Next on the list is Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who is way behind having created 15 big chances.
Cristiano Ronaldo is in a similar range to the likes of Harry Kane and 36-year-old Fabio Quagliarella.
The Sampdoria striker has 21 league goals this term and is two clear of Ronaldo (19) in the Serie A top scorers charts.
Ronaldo has only created eight big chances too, Mohamed Salah and Duvan Zapata are the most creative players behind Lionel Messi and Hazard.
Messi now has 414 goals to his name in La Liga, an all-time record which he will now look to build upon.
