BARCELONA are aiming to push ahead with a deal for Hirving Lozano as they consider him the ideal player to take the reins from Lionel Messi once he calls it a day on his illustrious career.
The 22-year-old has attracted plenty of attention from clubs around Europe for his performances with PSV this season.
He currently tops the Eredivisie scoring list with 11 goals in just 16 games and has also provided seven assists.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Lozano recently with a £42million bid touted.
But Barcelona and Real Madrid have now entered the fray for his signature with the Spanish clubs eyeing a future franchise star.
That’s according to El Gol Digital, who claim Barcelona could press ahead with a move ahead of their rivals.
Despite Messi signing a new contract that will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2021, Barcelona are already planning for the day he retires from football.
And the La Liga leaders believe Lozano is the ideal player to take over from Messi when that day comes.
They are said to be willing to pay close to £49million for his signature to fend off competition from their arch-rivals.
Lozano only joined PSV in the summer but has already established himself on the world stage with Mexico, scoring four goals in nine World Cup qualifiers.
He also scored twice for his country in an international friendly against Belgium last month, which ended in the 3-3.
