Alvaro Morata has revealed that he was urged to join Chelsea by Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. The Spainiard became Chelsea’s club-record signing in the summer for a £60 million fee.
And the 25-year-old, who also had the chance to join Manchester United, has hit the ground running with eight goals in 14 appearances so far. Zidane has already admitted that he was unhappy that Madrid offloaded Morata, but the striker claims that it was the Frenchman who advised him to seek more playing time at another club. ‘I will be thankful for ever to Zidane because he gave me the chance to win another Champions League and play at Real Madrid,’ Morata told Marca.
He said to me ‘Alvaro, I know that you want to play and have consistency and I think it would be logical for you to go’. ‘He said to me that he wanted me to stay but also that he had a lot of options going forward.
‘I want to be an important player for Spain and for that I need consistency which I am looking for. I would never regret joining a club a club like Chelsea and hopefully I will be a long time at Chelsea.’
