About CUNY - Borough of Manhattan Community College
Welcome to Borough of Manhattan Community College, located in the heart of New York City.
BMCC is a college that is alive with ideas and innovation, and supportive of the innate human striving for self-improvement. We offer opportunity to those students who desire it and wish to strive for it.
With about 25,000 students, BMCC is the largest college in the City University of New York system and the first community college in Manhattan.
Students can take advantage of the prime location in the heart of downtown New York City, a financial hub and artistic center with its communities of Tribeca and SoHo.
The main campus, situated on 4.28 acres of land spans four blocks from Chambers Street to North Moore Street. It features a swimming pool and gymnasium as well as excellent technological resources, computer labs, and a state-of-the-art media center.

I have found BMCC to be a good college with a lot of resources. I like this school for a lot of reasons – it is a nice campus in the city, it has a library, and the professors help you out in your subject. My favorite classes are my programming classes. My advice to prospective international students is to be conscious about selecting a college and major. I like New York City because it so friendly and nice. Also, there are so many restaurants that you can’t miss the food from your country. My best experience has been my on-campus job working with the BMCC Office of the Registrar. I am helping other students register, and it’s fun. After BMCC, I will go to New York City College of Technology-CUNY to complete my higher education studies.

Go For Classes, Stay For the Extras
If students at Borough of Manhattan Community College spend a lot of time hanging around campus, who could blame them? After all, the college is located in Tribeca, one of Manhattan's most artsy and charming neighborhoods. It's just a short walk from the Hudson River Park and River Promenade, stretching from Battery Park City to the Chelsea Piers and beyond; trendy art galleries; hot restaurants and chic boutiques.
For BMCC students, lower Manhattan is their playground. It's also full of internship opportunities. The college has worked with Wall Street, City Hall and BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center to create a unique range of opportunities and resources for the students.
BMCC is CUNY's largest community college, with 22,500 undergraduate and 10,000 continuing education students, and is also its only one in Manhattan.
Founded in 1963, it originally focused on preparing students for business careers but now boasts 27 academic programs including nursing, multimedia technology, engineering science, criminal justice, forensic science and paramedics.
The college's main campus, at 199 Chambers St., is on 4.28 acres shaped like a ship. There are state-of-the-art labs, a library, one of the most advanced media centers in the country, and a newly renovated swimming pool. Students gather in open lounge areas that extend the length of the building and look out onto the Hudson River.
The newly renovated Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development is at 25 Broadway, in lower Battery Park. Next year, the college expects to open the new, 14-story Fiterman Hall at 30 West Broadway. Fiterman was damaged during the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and later demolished.

I chose BMCC because my friend graduated from there and told me about the college and opportunities. I like the extra-curricular opportunities, such as the CUNY Service Corps program and student academies. My favorite class is Speech, because I get to improve my grammar and communication skills. My plan after BMCC is to transfer to New York University (NYU).

After doing a tremendous amount of research, the very first reason I chose BMCC was for the tuition. It’s an incredibly affordable college in NYC.
The second reason was its location. I wanted to be in the city every day. I think BMCC is the best bridge for international students to adapt to a new culture. The diversity of students and professors makes it easier to be proud of who you are and where you come from. BMCC helps my confidence every day. It’s a solid foundation upon which to build my future academic and career success.
My advice to prospective international students is to get involved Ask around. Make at least one friend in each class. Don’t be afraid. You are not alone. I like to be exposed to many different things, cultures, and challenges. This country and city always leave extra space to push yourself, challenge your personality, and be better. I like that it’s possible to experience major shifts in my world view.
My best experience here has been interacting with professors and staff because they are so helpful. They encourage me, inspire me, and make up my second family here. After BMCC, I plan to transfer to a four-year school and most likely major in Psychology and complete the Pre-Med requirements. I hope to get my MD from an American college.

Why Choose a Community College?
BMCC primarily offers two-year associate degree programs. After graduation, those first two years count towards your bachelor’s degree. Many people choose to study at a community college because it prepares them better for a four-year college. For students that study at BMCC they continue their studies at a bigger university in the US. This can be a good choice for you if you think you might need extra help your first few years in college. Later you can apply want to a top-tier university that would normally be harder to apply for.
