Philippe Coutinho is having a difficult time at Barcelona since joining from Liverpool last year – and things seem to be getting worse. In his team’s 2-0 win against Girona, the Brazilian looked a shadow of his former self – and perhaps was about as much use as one.
Out on the left, teammates Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi were linking brilliantly, but to the expense of Coutinho who was forced further away from the play during these attacking spells. He showed glimpses of his playmaking ability with a couple of decent passes, but was criticised for missing two chances on goal.
It’s no surprise to hear that Coutinho is apparently unhappy with his role out wide in this Barca’ team. There have since been reports that the former Liverpool star-man is trying to force a move away from the Camp Nou.
But some Barcelona fans are sticking with the support for the out-of-favour forward. Although his confidence seems shot, he persevered in creating some chemistry with Alba during yesterday’s match and throughout the season.
But some Liverpool fans have been quick to jump on their former number 10’s poor form. Coutinho linked to bitter rivals Manchester United – as well as other European sides – he may be looking to rekindle the magic in the Premier League.
He was a crucial player for Liverpool in 2016/17 and for half of the following season before the La Liga giants snapped him up for an initial £105 million – with the potential to rise to £142 million.
