Chelsea and Manchester United have both spoke to Bayern Munich about the availability of Spain midfielder Thiago this summer. The Bundesliga giants are believed to be open to selling the 27-year-old as new manager Niko Kovac aims to trim his squad ahead of his first season in charge. The midfielder was close to joining Manchester United in 2013 from Barcelona but Pep Guardiola, then at Bayern, intervened to take Thiago to Germany where he played under the Spaniard for a second time. Manchester City have kept a close eye on Thiago over the last 12 months but ESPN claim United and Chelsea have now entered the race.

Chelsea open talks to sign Bayern Munich star
Munich are keen to move on some players this summer and with nine midfielder in his squad, Kovac can afford to lose Thiago. The Spaniard has struggled with injuries since moving to the Allianz Arena but is still widely recognised as one of the most naturally gifted midfielders on the planet and could command a fee in the region of £50m.
