Lionel Messi has been dropped for Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Juventus on Wednesday evening. The Argentine was surprisingly named as a substitute for Barca’s fixture in Turin, with Ernesto Valverde opting to play Gerard Deulofeu in the role behind Luis Suarez.
Messi trained along with the rest of his Barca teammates on Tuesday evening ahead of their match against Juve and did not appear to show any signs of discomfort. According to Mundo Deportivo and Catalan radio station RAC1, Messi is not carrying an injury and has been benched by Valverde for ‘technical reasons’.
Messi has been in fine form for Barcelona this season, scoring 15 goals in 16 games so far.
