Fans couldn't help but send a message to Brazil legend Pele after Lionel Messi scored a pair of free-kicks in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday night.

World Cup winner Pele hit the headlines last week when he claimed that the Barca star "only has one skill" when compared to greats of the game like himself and Diego Maradona.

Pele made his thoughts clear in an interview with Folha de Sao Paulo .

"How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn’t head the ball well?", he said."How can you compare?

"To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers.
"As far as I’m concerned, Maradona was one of the best players ever. If you ask me, 'Was he better than Messi?' Yes, he was. Much better.

“[Franz] Beckenbauer, [Johan] Cruyff were also excellent players."

And while there is no doubting that Pele, Maradona, Beckenbauer and Cruyff were all excellent players, modern football fans would tell you that Messi deserves to be placed in such company.Saturday was the first time that he'd ever scored two free-kicks in the same La Liga game, with the strikes bookending goals from Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez in a 4-0 win.

And fans couldn't contain themselves.
